Well I put it down to the human desire for certainty and integration and the Book of Mormons design that instills a Confirmation Bias in its readers. Then by the time the earnest seeker prays for the Holy Ghost's Guidance wrt the truth of the Book of Mormon he actually uses a non biblical text that appears so close to the bible that it is deemed in harmony and complementary rather than ad on inspirational fiction that deviates in significant aspects from the New Testament.
My mother would have known the Bible well and was in the midst of a full conversion to evangelical revivalism when the LDS Missionaries came to our door. She died as a TBM at age 98 and we had an ecumenical funeral, mostly Mormon including Temple Robes (the coffin was concealed), but I claime her for our Christian faith and grounds of her strong evangelical orientation as expressed in her favorite hyms. Nevertheless my mother was able to fully integrate Mormonism and evangelcal Revivalism (Hofacker) by projecting everything into a closer relationship with Jesus. She is one of the most evangelical (relationship with Jesus oriented) Mormons I have known.
